3 Vinyl Maintenance Tips for This Year’s Spring

Vinyl is one of the most popular siding options in the United States today, and for good reason. It is relatively inexpensive, widely available and most of all, very easy to maintain. But just because vinyl does not require a lot of upkeep doesn’t mean that you should completely ignore it. Now that springtime is here, here are three excellent vinyl siding maintenance tips from the roof inspection pros over at Vista Roofing Inc. to keep your vinyl siding looking and performing at its best.

Tip #1: Clean With a Soft Cloth or a Soft Bristled Brush

Wash your vinyl siding with a long-handled brush or a piece of soft cloth. If the surface is textured, the soft bristles will help scrub dirt that is stuck in between the grooves. If you can, try to avoid using pressure washers to clean your siding as the strong stream of water it produces can cause damage if done incorrectly.

Tip #2: Make Your Own Cleaning Solution

There are a lot of cleaning solutions available in the market for vinyl siding but some of them tend to be too harsh. For this reason, many siding and roof maintenance companies recommend making your own using common household items. Here’s a good recipe: Mix a third of a cup of powdered laundry detergent with a third of a cup of powdered household cleaner and pour it into a bucket containing one gallon of water.

Tip #3: Remove Tough Stains

For tough stains such as paint drips, tar, and pen marks, use a nonabrasive bathtub cleaner and give it a good but gentle scrubbing with a nylon scrubbing pad. For mold and mildew stains, you can use a solution containing one part bleach mixed with four parts water. Avoid using paint thinner, nail polish remover, or furniture cleaners as these can damage the surface of vinyl siding.

If really you want to get the best possible results, hire a professional residential roofing and siding company like Vista Roofing Inc. to do the cleaning for you!
