Should You Repair or Replace Damaged Siding?

The exterior of your home shows how much you care for it, and your siding is one of the things that can be easily noticed. But if your siding has been damaged, should you have it repaired or replaced? Residential roofing contractor Vista Roofing Inc. explains when you should repair or replace damaged siding.

When to Repair

  1. If there is a manageable number of holes in your siding, you may easily repair it. Check for birds or bugs that may be causing the holes.
  2. When there are only a few panels that are chipped and cracked, this can be easily fixed without changing the whole siding. If there are more than a few, consider replacing your siding. It can save you money from an expensive repair project.
  3. Have your siding repaired if the mold and mildew build up is only minor. First, find out the reason for the build-up. Hire a trusted siding and roof inspection crew to help you find the exact reason why there is too much moisture.
  4. A few loose panels can be easily fixed. It may be caused by strong winds or poor installation.

When to Replace

If your siding is constantly in need of repair, then maybe it’s time to replace your siding. When a big portion of your home’s exterior is damaged, a siding replacement project will save you money in the long run.

  1. Bubbles underneath the surface of your siding are usually caused by water damage. Water is often trapped in these bubbles, and leaving them unattended can only result in further damage to your siding. Replacing your siding is the best decision in cases like this.
  2. If your siding is rotten and dry, it cannot be repaired. As well as if the color is fading. This tells you that your siding is not waterproof anymore and needs to be replaced.
  3. If you find yourself having the need to call siding and roof maintenance crew to repaint, clean, and repair the siding on a regular basis. Excessive maintenance means your siding is always with damage.
